Dear Church Family,
This week our governor, Roy Cooper, requested that we refrain from gathering in groups of more than 100. Romans 13: 1 calls us to “be subject to the governing authorities.” Therefore, to honor the Governor’s request, and because we believe want to protect our congregation to the best of our ability:
All Sunday and Wednesday evenings programs are suspended until further notice. (updated)
Church offices will be open on Wednesdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm. (updated)
We will evaluate future activities on a weekly basis.
We are in an unprecedented situation and in many ways learning along the way. However, there are truths to guide us. Here are 5 things we can all do:
Pray. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1: 7). Focus on prayer instead of panic.
Serve. Look for opportunities to love others. There may be people around you who need groceries dropped at their doorsteps or other simple acts of kindness. This is a moment when we can share the love of Christ with friends, neighbors, classmates and coworkers.
Connect. I hope you will take the time to give a call or send an email or facebook message to various people in our church. Perhaps there are opportunities to gather in small groups. Let’s make sure we take care of each other.
Give. We are a generous church and we want to demonstrate our faith through generous giving. Furthermore, even though we are not meeting, the expenses remain the same. Please mail in your giving or drop your check by the office during these two weeks.
Testify. In times of fear and uncertainty many people are looking for the answers that only Jesus can provide. This is a great opportunity to talk about the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
As for me, it would be my pleasure to speak to you by phone or visit with you at your convenience. I have to tell you–I’ve never quite faced a situation like this and I am still figuring it out. But I am honored to be your pastor. So please, call or text 518-321-8055 whenever you like! Or email me at [email protected].
Cindy and I are so grateful for this church family. You have welcomed us into your lives. Now is our chance to generously share that same love with our community by praying, serving, connecting, giving and testifying about a love that is there for all of us.
Let’s allow this season of quarantine to also be a season of prayer. May the events of these days lay the foundation for a new and fruitful ministry together. Throughout history, whenever the Church faces a challenge it always emerges stronger and more vibrant. I believe that will be our experience and I am optimistic about what God has planned as we share the good news of the better life that is found in Jesus Christ.
