On-Line Bibles
A variety of Bibles are available on-line on
the Internet. Most of these also provide search engines, allowing you to look up a
passage or search for specific words or phrases. Here is a sampling. If you
know of others or if you find any of these links no longer works, please contact the Webmaster.
Note: The World Wide Study Bible and the NET Bible especially take
advantage of the power of the Internet and may be of great use to the serious Bible
student.
American Bible
Society Bible Search - Search 11 different English translations. This is
part of ABS's
Bible
Resource Center, which includes other aids to on-line Bible study, as
well as several Bible study discussion groups.
Bible Gateway -
This service of Gospel Communications Network (Gospelcom.net) is used by many other web sites. It allows access
to seven English translations (including NIV, NASB, and RSV) as well as translations into
about a dozen other languages. A Bible Gateway search form is available on our own God's Word page.
Blue Letter
Bible - This King James Version includes hyperlinks to the Treasury of Scripture
Knowledge, Strong's Concordance, and a variety of other commentaries and Bible study
tools.
Crosswalk Bible Study Tools - This service of
Crosswalk.Com includes more than 20 English translations, with many
of the popular modern versions (NASB, NKJV, NLT, NRSV, and TEV). Also a variety of
other searchable study tools: commentaries, concordances, lexicons, and
dictionaries. For an audio version of the King James Version (requiring RealAudio),
go to Crosswalk's Audio
Bible.
The HTML Bible -
Software developer John Hurt has developed several computer versions of the King James
Version and other resources, including the HTML Bible (each chapter is a separate web
page), The Speed Bible (which uses the MS HTML Help format), and the Speaking Bible (which
also uses MS HTML Help format and Microsoft Agent speech synthesis technology to read the
Bible out loud to you). These are available on-line, or may be downloaded in entirety for
a small charge. There are also several public domain Bibles and resources available for
on-line viewing or free download.
The NET
Bible - The on-line edition of The New English Translation, a completely new
translation developed especially for the Internet by the Biblical Studies
Foundation. Includes an abundance of translation, textual, and study notes. This is an ongoing project. Users and scholars alike may submit comments and suggestions
to the translation committee, and the translation is frequently upgraded.
Online
Search Engine for Canonical Texts (ECanon) - an XML database of
canonical texts, currently containing the KJV, RSV, NRSV, English versions
and the Westcott and Hort Greek New Testament (unaccented) (WH). The ECanon
is part of TC: A Journal of Biblical Textual Criticism, and it is
designed to be a free online tool for scholars, students, clergy, and other
interested people.
World Wide
Study Bible - This resource from Calvin College is very different from most of the
on-line Bibles. It is not searchable. However, it does contain a large number
of links to resources on each book and many passages of the Bible, including translations,
commentaries, sermons, meditations, studies, and even hymns and musical selections.
