Opportunities for Education

Christian Education is the Christ-centered process by which the church proclaims, instructs in, and models the Gospel, Biblical content, and the Christian life and ministry. Toward this end, First Presbyterian offers a variety of educational opportunities.

Traditionally, Sunday School is the major educational program in the church. At First Presbyterian Sunday School is a family affair. We have classes for infants, youth, and a number of classes for adults. There are adult classes for young adults, senior citizens, women, as well as classes that are more general and inclusive. The Sunday School hour begins at 9:40 a.m. A greeter at any of the doors to the church will be glad to assist you in choosing a class to visit.

This is a whole new way of doing Sunday School for children in Kindergarten through Middle School.  Rather than having individual classrooms, students move with their age group from one "workshop" to another each week. The workshops include stories & games, drama, arts & crafts, computers, and audio-visual. During each rotation of workshops they children will study the same story, so that by the end of three or four weeks they will have examined the same story from several different viewpoints and through several different learning styles. This new model, called the Workshop Rotation Model, reinforces Biblical literacy and keeps Sunday School exciting and current for the children. Click here to visit our special PromiseLand page.

Bible Studies

Several times a year a variety of short-term (6-8 weeks) Bibles Studies are offered.  These study groups meet in homes and at the church on various days and times.  Please watch the weekly bulletin for details.

The congregation is enrolled in the Disciple Bible Study Program.  This is an intensive 32 week survey of the Bible with an emphasis on God's Word as a transforming message for today.  Watch the bulletin for details about the next class start.

V.B.S. is an exciting time for all ages at First Presbyterian. Our 2004 Family Vacation Bible School will be held Sunday through Wednesday, July 11-14. Supper is served from 5:45-6:15 each evening. At 6:30 the children will travel to Lava Lava Island: Where Jesus Love Flows. There they will explore the love of our Lord through stories, crafts, games, music, and videos. Meanwhile, the adults will be lead by Mrs. Holly Worsley in a study of pursing intentionality in our Christian walk. V.B.S. will conclude at 8:00 p.m. with some special theme snacks.  Click here to go to our special VBS page!

Other Christian Education Opportunities

First Presbyterian occasionally provides other educational opportunities such as marriage and family seminars or film series and special speakers.
