Advent
& Christmas
Celebrations
Christ came to earth a little more than 2000
years ago! And he desires to come into our hearts! And he will come again to
our world in triumph. The word "Advent" comes from the Latin word for
"coming." It is the season when we celebrate Christ's first coming to the
world and into our lives. And when we prepare for his return. This year, as
First Presbyterian moves through the season of Lent, we will reflect on four
traditional themes associated with this season: hope, peace, joy, and love.
Come celebrate and prepare with us!
We welcome all to the
following programs and services. There is no charge and no reservation
required for any of them. Please call the church office at 704-938-4623 or
send an email to
firstpresb@firstpresb.org for more information.
Old
Fashion
Hanging-of-the-Greens

congregation is invited to a chili and soup supper in the Fellowship Hall at
6:00. Afterwards, we'll divide into teams to decorate the facilities and
Chrismon tree for Advent and Christmas. There will be a special children's
program, where they will make an advent wreath and chrismon for their own
families.
Ladies'
Christmas Brunch
Saturday, December 5, 9:30-11:30 a.m. - All women are invited to
drop in and enjoy a
festive time together at Connie R's home. Please call the church office for
directions.
Advent
Celebration and Children's Musical
Sunday,
December 6, 6:00 p.m. - We will gather in the Fellowship Hall for a
Covered Dish Supper. Afterwards, there will be a children's program,
featuring the presentation by the Kidz Khoir of
Visions of Christmas,
compiled by Jeff Slaughter. Bring a dish or two to share, and come enjoy
great fellowship and a fun program.
The
Advent
Cross
Drama
Sunday, December 13, 10:55
a.m. - During the Worship Service, members of the congregation and local
high school students will
present The Advent
Cross, a drama by Juliette M. Palmer. This play weaves the meaning of
the Advent Wreath with biblical characters made contemporary. The Chancel
Choir also will present special music during this service.
Christmas
Brunch & Carol Sing
Sunday, December 20, 9:00 a.m. - All the church family and friends
are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall for a wonderful brunch. Then we'll
sing as many of our favorite carols as we can. This event is for all ages
and will take the place of our regular Sunday School and PromiseLand.
American Red
Cross Blood Drive
Tuesday, December 22, 2:30-6:30 p.m. - Come give one of the most
precious gifts of all--the gift of life! Hot cider and Christmas goodies (in
addition to the usual snacks and beverages) in
the Canteen! This is the conclusion of our 100 pint Centennial Year Blood
Donation Challenge, and we need 35 more pints! Appointments are not
necessary, but they can expedite the registration process. Please call the
church office (704-938-4623) to reserve a time.
Christmas Eve Service
Thursday, December 24, 5:30 p.m.
- What better way to begin Christmas than in church? This service will
be preceded by an extended twenty minute musical prelude, which provides an
opportunity for families and individuals to come early and unwind before the
worship time. The service itself is an informal celebration with candles,
carols and the Christmas story for all ages. We will conclude with a joyous
candle lighting ceremony.
