Reading through the Bible in a year
is one of the best ways possible of grasping the full scope and breadth of God's Word.
By reading several chapters a day (usually about 15-20 minutes in a modern
translation), this is a very reachable goal.
A variety of plans for reading through the
Bible are available on the Internet. A few of these are listed below. If you
are aware of others, or if you find these links no longer work, please contact the Webmaster.
Back to the Bible Reading Plan - Several schedules are available,
including ones that go through the Bible chronologically, historically
(order in which the books were written), beginning to end, or a Old and New
Testaments together. A wide variety of English and international language
translations are available, using the Bible Gateway. The plans also can be
downloaded to a PDA or purchased in print.
Bible Pathway - This plan also provides a devotional commentary for
each daily 15 minute Bible reading. The plan is available online and in print.
Bible-Reading.Com - This plan was developed by Michael Coley.
Each day of the week, you read from one to six chapters out of a different part of the
Bible. Each week, you cover one or more chapters out of each major area of the
Bible, but by switching areas daily, you do not spend several days or weeks on an area
that you may not find as interesting.
Crosswalk's Bible in a Year - This site provides a daily reading of
approximately four chapters, from different parts of the Bible. A wide
variety of English translations (plus the Latin Vulgate!) are available.
There is an option to chart your progress online through a cookie, and you
can also listen to the passages read via Real Audio.
Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plans - Two different plans, developed by the
Navigators, that download in PDF format (requires Acrobat Reader). You can
then use it in your computer or print it out to use in your Bible. A new
plan is the Book-at-a-time plan, which has readings from two places in
scripture each day: an Old or New Testament Book and the Wisdom Literature.
Can begin at any time during the year. The original Discipleship Journal
Reading Plan has readings from four places in scripture each day, and also
can begin at any time during the year. A third plan, the 5x5x5 plan, takes
you through the New Testament in a year of 5 minute readings 5 days a week.
