Our
Centennial
Year
Celebrating
a Century
of Ministry
in Kannapolis!
1909-2009
Rooted in Faith . . . Growing through Grace
On
June 27, 1909, twenty-five people gathered in a meeting room above a drug store
in the fledgling town of Kannapolis to form a new Presbyterian congregation. A
hundred years later we are celebrating a rich heritage of worship, outreach and
service in this community. Even as we reflect and rejoice in the past, we are
challenged to continue to minister as God leads in our changing community, and
we look forward to beginning a new century that will be just as exciting as the
past.
Please join us, as we continue
this journey together. There are many exciting events and activities planned,
highlighted by our Centennial Homecoming Celebration on June 21. Please visit
this page often, as we continue to update it with more details!

Centennial Christmas
Homecoming,
June 21
We invite anyone who has ever been a part of the First Presbyterian family to
join with us for the Centennial Homecoming on Sunday, June 21, 2009.
We will begin the morning with a time of coffee and
juice in the Fellowship Hall at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Eldon Wadsworth,
former pastor, will be our guest speaker at the 10:55 a.m. Worship Service.
We will have "Sons of the Church" participating in the service, along with
representatives from our mother, sister and daughter churches. A Scottish
bagpiper will remind us of our heritage with special music during the service,
and the celebration will close with a Covered Dish Lunch on the grounds.
Join us if you can and please know that our guests need not bring a lunch,
but just join us for the worship, fun, and festivities. Please contact Kris
Edscorn, Director of Church Ministries, at the church office, 704-938-4623,
kedscorn@firstpresb.org, with questions.
We hope you will take the opportunity to share some of your stories from the
past and reminisce with old acquaintances as we celebrate our history and look
forward to our future
Our Schedule for the Day:
10:00 a.m. - Gather in the Fellowship Hall for coffee and
fellowship - the bagpiper will summon us to the Sanctuary for Worship.
10:55 a.m. - Worship Service in the Sanctuary
12:15 p.m. - Dinner on the Grounds - either in the Fellowship
Hall or under a tent outside.
Service Challenges
As Rick Warren reminds us, "It's not about you!" Even as we
celebrate what God has done in and through us for the past century, we also
recognize that there are many needs around us to be met. The Centennial
Celebration Task Force has issued a service challenge for each month. So far
(through April) we have surpassed the goals with flying colors! Let's keep up
the good work!
January - 100 items to be donated to the Kannapolis
Food Pantries (200 actually contributed!)
February - 100 hours of service for church (337 actually reported!)
March, July, December - 100 total pints of blood collected for American Red
Cross Blood Drive (36 pints collected in March!)
April/May - 100 items donated to Cabarrus Crisis Pregnancy Center (230
actually donated in April!)
May (new challenge!) - 100 items donated to Teen Closet and Hygiene
Cabinet at Opportunity House
June - 100 visitors brought to church
August/September - 100 school items donated to local schools
October/November - 100 items of warm clothing collected for distribution
to needy
December - 100 angels "adopted" off of Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree
